Paul Costelloe Spring Summer ‘25 collection - London Fashion Week

By Chelsea Abili

Paul Costelloe, a true fashion icon, captivated our gaze once again on the 13th of September with the debut of his SS25 collection at London Fashion Week, which took place in the dazzling Waldorf Hilton Hotel. Known for his luxurious, elegant designs, Costelloe is one of the longest-standing designers at London Fashion Week, having presented his collections here for over 30 years.  It's no wonder he's crafted bespoke pieces for style icons like Beyoncé and Paris Hilton, with Princess Diana naming him as her favourite designer in the 1980s. His work embodies elegance, with the fusion of royal ties with chic figurine-like shaped designs.

Although proudly Irish, Paul has helped to shape the British fashion landscape, with his understanding of style and matchless taste being a significant part of Diana’s wardrobe, who helped to shape modern fashion today.

His collections often draw inspiration from his Irish roots, blending classic tailoring with modern textures, and his background in architecture was heavily prominent throughout his recent collection. From the wedding-like venue to the bridal trains, Paul clearly took time to bring his story to life. The Waldorf Hilton's interior provided an ideal backdrop as the hotel's exquisite setting echoed the collection’s romantic and delicate floral themes.

With his multidisciplinary approach to style, Paul has a unique way of expanding his creative vision into other realms, with the chandeliers, and gentle ambient lighting reflecting his playful, yet sophisticated approach to design. His designs are known for their clean lines, and structured, precise tailoring, with his faint tints of colour landing comfortably on the eye. His choice of models is exceptional, with their bold features and hair diversity working well with every choice of fabric. From linen silhouette short blue dresses, to woolly lined sweaters with colourful stripes, Paul didn’t fail to be versatile in design. I had the chance to view his recent collection in person, and I was blown away by his ability to transport me to a subtle floral bridal essence was exceptional, with the atmosphere around me being charged with admiration and excitement, with whispers and gasps filling the room as each model graced us with their presence. The loud applause as Paul strolled out was a testament to the collective delight we all felt while experiencing his extraordinary work.

His rich textures execute a timeless appeal, dipping into trends from flared trousers to oversized blazers, but never rely on current styles to portray his talent as he focuses on quality clothes that can be worn for years to come.
