The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute have announced that their 2023 Spring exhibition will pay homage to the late Karl Lagerfeld.
Karl Lagerfeld: A line of Beauty will honour the late fashion designer through a showcase of Lagerfeld’s work from the 1950s to his final collection in 2019. The retrospective exhibition will take place in New York at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met) next year.
Taking place from the May 5th to July 16th, 2023, in the Tisch Gallery, the famed Met Gala will be held on the 1st of May.
Visitors and fashion lovers around the world can expect to see his creations and sketches, from his time at fashion houses such as Fendi, Chanel, and of course his own brand. In total, The Met will display 150 Lagerfeld pieces, taking spectators on an immersive journey through Lagerfeld’s excellence.
“As custodians of Karl’s legacy, we aim to bring his passion, intuition, and inexhaustible creativity to life in everything we do. We cannot imagine a more poignant or meaningful way to celebrate his colossal achievements — both the enduring impact he’s had on fashion and how it’s shaping the future.” Said Pier Righi, CEO of Karl Lagerfeld, in a press release.
“Karl was a lover of multidisciplinary arts, and it’s the highest recognition for his work to be presented in such a monumental exhibition at The Met’s Costume Institute”.
The metropolitan Museum of Art have stated that both the exhibition and the benefit for The Costume Institute has been made possible Chanel, and supported by Fendi, Karl Lagerfeld and Conde Nast as well.
